Az Alpok csúcsai által körbezárt francia kisvárosban sírrongálási ügyben nyomoz a forrófejű Kerkérian hadnagy. Tőle nem messze, az elit egyetem zárt világában a rutinos, magának való Niémans felügyelő egy különös gyilkosságra próbál magyarázatot találni. A nyomozás során a két zsaru keresztezi egymás útját. Nem igazán szívlelik egymást, de kénytelenek együttműködni. Hamarosan rájönnek, hogy a két ügy összefügg egymással. A helyzet azonban tovább bonyolódik, és újabb gyilkosságok történnek.
